Vietnam and Philippines Advance to Semifinals of ASEAN Mitsubishi Electric Cup

On December 21, 2024, Vietnam and the Philippines secured their spots in the semifinals of the ASEAN Mitsubishi Electric Cup 2024. Vietnam topped Group B after a commanding 5-0 victory over Myanmar, while the Philippines caused an upset by defeating Indonesia 1-0.

At Viet Tri Stadium, Vietnam opened the scoring with Vi Hao Bui’s goal in the 48th minute, followed by a brace from Rafaelson in the 55th and 90th minutes. Nguyen Quang Hai added another in the 74th minute, and Nguyen Tien Linh capped off the scoring in injury time.

Meanwhile, at Manahan Stadium, the Philippines achieved a historic win with a penalty from Bjorn Kristensen in the 63rd minute, sending Indonesia out of the tournament. This marks the Philippines' first semifinal appearance since 2018.
Both teams will look to build on their momentum as they progress in the tournament.
