Nottingham Forest Stuns Manchester United with Historic 3-2 Victory at Old Trafford

Nottingham Forest
secured a memorable 3-2 win at Old Trafford, capitalizing on defensive errors from Manchester United. With the score level at 1-1, Morgan Gibbs-White's speculative shot wrong-footed goalkeeper Andre Onana, and soon after, Chris Wood's header found the net, leaving Onana flat-footed and Lisandro Martinez unable to intervene.

This defeat marked a second consecutive loss for United under manager Ruben Amorim. Forest's goals came from Nikola Milenkovic, Morgan Gibbs-White, and Chris Wood, while Rasmus Hojlund and Bruno Fernandes scored for the hosts.
Forest took an early lead just two minutes in when Milenkovic headed home from a corner, marking his first goal for the club. This was the third corner United had conceded in three games. United responded with persistent pressure, equalizing in the 15th minute when Hojlund poked home the rebound from Alejandro Garnacho’s close-range effort.

Both teams struck the woodwork in the first half, with attempts from Jota Silva and Fernandes, but went into halftime at 1-1. Forest regained the lead just two minutes into the second half when Gibbs-White's fierce shot caught Onana off guard. Seven minutes later, Wood looped a header into the net, becoming the club’s all-time top Premier League scorer.

United managed to pull a goal back when Amad Diallo set up Fernandes for a powerful strike, but Forest held firm to secure the victory, moving into the top five and just two points off the top four, while United languished in 13th place.

Talking Point - A Storm Brewing in Manchester
The turmoil at Manchester United is palpable, with manager Ruben Amorim acknowledging that things may worsen before they improve. The club has set a disturbing record, accumulating their fewest points after 15 league games since the 1986/87 season, just before Sir Alex Ferguson's arrival. Following back-to-back defeats, including a loss to Arsenal, the upcoming Manchester derby looms ominously.

Player of the Match
Chris Wood (Nottingham Forest)
While Gibbs-White had a standout game with a goal and an assist, Wood's performance was historic. He became the club’s all-time leading Premier League scorer with his 10th goal of the season, contributing significantly to Forest's success at Old Trafford. Wood's determination in the box and his 25th top-flight goal for the club proved decisive in this historic win. He has consistently performed well in the Premier League, now with a total of 78 goals in 241 games.
