​Arne Slot Praises Liverpool's Comeback in Thrilling 3-2 Win Over Southampton

Liverpool manager Arne Slot commended his team's resilience after they staged a second-half comeback to secure a 3-2 victory against bottom-placed Southampton. Premier League leaders, Liverpool, were at risk of losing until Mohamed Salah's heroics turned the game around.
Liverpool initially took the lead through a Southampton error but failed to capitalize further in the first half. After the restart, Southampton surprised them by taking a 2-1 lead. However, Salah's two goals lifted Liverpool to an eight-point lead at the top.
"In the second half, I saw the intensity I was looking for in the first half. Southampton make it really difficult for many teams, including top clubs, and they made it difficult today, though we dominated the game completely," Slot told Sky Sports.
"In the first half, there wasn’t enough urgency to get into the box, we just kept the ball instead of attacking. Although we fell behind in the second half, we showed more urgency and intensity.
"That led to numerous chances and eventually two goals. It is tough to create opportunities against a 4-5-1 low block, but we know Southampton like to play out from the back, so we had to be really aggressive; otherwise, they have a solid game plan."
Salah's brace took his tally to 10 league goals this season, two behind top scorer Erling Haaland, with the Egyptian scoring six goals in his last five league matches.
Salah's first goal stunned Southampton as he took one touch outside the box, allowing the ball to roll past the advancing keeper before netting the winner from the penalty spot.
"If you want to win, you need to score goals, and we know Mo can score," Slot said.
"For me, his first goal is the most vital as we scored out of nowhere. After that, it was just a matter of time before we scored another."
Slot has won 10 of his 12 Premier League games in charge of Liverpool in his debut season, but he faces arguably his toughest week so far. Liverpool is set to host Real Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday, followed by a match against Manchester City next Sunday.
"They are two teams who have dominated football in the past few years. So two big games and that’s why we needed to win today. That is what I am happy about," Slot said.
