Indonesia Confirmed as Host Nation for FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 Division 1

Indonesia Confirmed as Host Nation for FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 Division 1
FIFA has officially appointed Indonesia as the host country for the Division 1 stage of the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026. The announcement confirms a new regional tournament format scheduled to take place during the FIFA Matchday windows in September and October 2026.

The competition will be structured into two separate divisions. Alongside Indonesia hosting the top tier, Hong Kong has been assigned as the host for Division 2, marking a notable development in regional football organization under FIFA and AFF cooperation.

The inclusion of Hong Kong has drawn attention because the territory is traditionally part of the East Asian football federation rather than Southeast Asia. The final list of participating teams is expected to include 12 nations, split evenly across both divisions, with selections likely influenced by FIFA rankings and regional balance.

For Division 1, teams such as Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, and Singapore are expected to compete, while Division 2 may feature Hong Kong, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, Brunei Darussalam, and Timor Leste. However, the official confirmation of formats and final lineups is still pending.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino is expected to reveal the full competition format soon. With Indonesia hosting and the tournament taking place during an official FIFA window, the national team is seen as having strong potential, especially with access to both domestic talents and overseas-based players, making them one of the favorites on paper.
