Real Sociedad Earn €1.2m from Copa del Rey Win, but Bigger Reward Lies in Super Cup Appearance
April 19 – In the early hours of this morning Beijing time, Real Sociedad played out a 2-2 draw with Atlético Madrid after 120 minutes, before eventually defeating them on penalties to claim this season's Copa del Rey title.

According to Spanish outlet *Mundo Deportivo*, as champions, Real Sociedad have earned approximately €1.2 million in prize money from the competition. This sum consists of two parts: a fixed participation fee and cumulative win bonuses for progressing through each round.

Runners-up Atlético Madrid did not leave empty-handed, receiving around €1 million in prize money.

Beyond the official prize money, the final's gate receipts represent a significant "bonus". It is reported that the ticket revenue from the final is split equally three ways between the Spanish Football Federation, Real Sociedad, and Atlético Madrid. With the La Cartuja Stadium holding 50,000 spectators and an average ticket price of €90, it is estimated each finalist will receive a further €1 million from ticket sales.

More importantly, the competitive dividend from winning the trophy far exceeds the cash prize. Securing the Copa del Rey means Real Sociedad have qualified for the Spanish Super Cup. Under current rules, clubs participating in the Super Cup receive a guaranteed minimum of €6 million, providing a substantial boost to the club's budget.

Although the direct prize money difference between the winner and runner-up is not huge, the significance of this trophy for the club's history and the players' careers is immeasurable.

In the all-time Copa del Rey winners' list, Barcelona lead with 32 titles, followed by Athletic Bilbao (24) and Real Madrid (20). With this victory, Real Sociedad have reached four titles, equalling Espanyol and Real Unión, further cementing their status as a traditionally strong club in Spanish football.
