Guardiola Proud Despite City's Draw as Palace Show Promise
Manchester City was held to a 2–2 draw away against Crystal Palace in the Premier League, twice coming from behind to rescue a point in a pulsating match at Selhurst Park.
This result now means that Man City's struggles have extended to six straight away matches without a win in all competitions, keeping eight points behind leader Liverpool in fourth.
Pep Guardiola expressed pride in his Manchester City players after their 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace, a result that extended their challenging stretch to just one win in nine matches.
City had to come from behind twice at Selhurst Park to secure a point. Their earlier victory over Nottingham Forest did not signal a return to form, and Palace might feel they were unfortunate not to win the match.
Palace struck first just four minutes in when Will Hughes found wing-back Daniel Munoz, who scored the opening goal. They had opportunities to increase their lead before Erling Haaland leveled the score with a well-timed header from Matheus Nunes' cross.
Palace regained the lead when Maxence Lacroix headed in from a Hughes corner. However, City equalized again when Bernardo Silva set up Rico Lewis, who delivered a stunning shot into the top corner from outside the box. Lewis was later sent off for two yellow cards, the second for a foul on Trevoh Chalobah.
Guardiola remarked, "We'll take the point. I'm incredibly proud of the players for their fight and resilience in difficult conditions." City now sit eight points behind league leaders Liverpool, having played one more match, while Palace are four points clear of the relegation zone.
Discussing injuries, Guardiola noted, "This season has been tough. We can't talk about the title race after losing four games in a row and now drawing. We'll focus on winning the next game and recovering our players."

City's Form Struggles
Manchester City's inconsistent form continues, with only one win since late October. Concerns were raised during the match, particularly regarding Kyle Walker's defensive lapses, which contributed to both Palace goals. Goalkeeper Stefan Ortega, starting for the third consecutive match in place of Ederson, also faced criticism for letting the opening goal slip through him.
Ruben Dias made several crucial blocks to prevent further damage, while Haaland managed to secure his 13th Premier League goal of the season, though it was only his third since September. Rico Lewis, who had scored all three of his Premier League goals against Palace, faced disappointment after receiving a red card for dissent and a foul.
City had opportunities to score, with Haaland's shot hitting goalkeeper Dean Henderson and Ilkay Gundogan volleying over the bar, but they ultimately had fewer attempts than Palace. They were frustrated when the referee ended the match just as they launched a promising attack.
Up next, City will face Juventus in the Champions League on Wednesday, followed by a clash with rivals Manchester United next Sunday. The question remains: can Guardiola help his team regain their dominant form?
Palace's Positive Trends
Crystal Palace is now unbeaten in four matches, with three ending in draws. The performance against City provided encouraging signs for their climb up the table. Will Hughes had a standout game, contributing two assists—one for Munoz's goal and another for Lacroix's header.
Palace registered 13 attempts compared to City's 12, with Eberechi Eze, Jefferson Lerma, and Hughes all having shots blocked by Dias. The draw was deemed a fair result.
"We're pleased with the point and many aspects of our performance. It feels like we could have won if we'd played at our best," said Palace boss Oliver Glasner. "The players are in good shape, and the results are boosting our confidence."
