Man United Shows Improvement Despite Loss, Arsenal Closes Gap on Liverpool
Arsenal narrowed the gap on Premier League leaders Liverpool by securing a 2-0 victory over Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday. The Gunners showcased their exceptional set-piece prowess, with second-half goals from Jurriën Timber and William Saliba, both from corners, ensuring a comfortable win.
This result marked the first defeat for United's new coach, Ruben Amorim, since taking charge last month. Meanwhile, Liverpool dropped two points after a dramatic 3-3 draw with Newcastle at St. James' Park. With this win, Arsenal now trail Liverpool by just seven points in the league table.

First defeat for Amorim, but Man United show progress
Amorim warned that a "storm will come" before Manchester United's trip to Arsenal. The new United coach arrived at the Emirates Stadium unbeaten in three games since taking charge last month, but the defeat against Arsenal ended that perfect start.
Amorim anticipated a challenging period for United, especially with upcoming matches against Manchester City, Tottenham, and Newcastle before the end of the month. Despite the comprehensive loss to the Gunners, there were signs that Amorim's influence is starting to take hold.United displayed purpose and a clear tactical plan throughout the game. Amorim and his coaching staff have been working diligently on the training ground, and the back three looked solid. In midfield, captain Bruno Fernandes showed promise in a deeper role, while Mason Mount brought energy and tactical awareness to his position. The appearance of French teenager Leny Yoro as a second-half substitute marked his first competitive game since joining from Lille in the summer, following a lengthy recovery from a foot injury.
However, the manner of United's defeat—conceding two goals from two corners—and the team's fading energy in the latter stages of the match are causes for concern. Amorim has already highlighted the need to improve the squad's physical condition, a task that remains ongoing. Nonetheless, there are positive signs of progress. Amorim is giving all his players opportunities to prove themselves, and both wins and losses are helping him understand their capabilities better.
By the time United return to the Emirates for an FA Cup third-round tie in January, expect the team to be in better shape and more likely to secure a positive result
