Cruzeiro and Grêmio score great goals, but only draw; rivals are grateful
Cruzeiro and Grêmio drew 1-1 this Wednesday (27), in the 35th round of the Brasileirão, at Mineirão. Tricolor took the lead with Braithwaite, but Matheus Pereira made it all even for Raposa. Fernando Diniz's team reached 48 points and remains in 7th place, while Renato Gaúcho's team reached 41 points and rose to 14th place. Watch the highlights in the video below:
How was the match?
At the start of the match, Cruzeiro put pressure on Grêmio and almost opened the scoring when Lautaro Díaz was sent forward by William, but hit the post. The visitors opened the scoring when João Pedro broke through on the right, crossing for Braithwaite to finish with a backheel and put the ball in the back of the net in the 18th minute. The Raposa responded with Barreal wasting an incredible chance one-on-one with Marchesín and shooting just wide of the post. The Cabuloso kept up the pressure until Matheus Pereira exchanged passes with Gabriel Veron and shot first time to score a great goal in the 41st minute.
In the second half, the match lost pace. Cruzeiro sought more goals and created a dangerous chance from a cross that was wasted by Lautaro Díaz, who headed the ball over the goal line. The changes made by both teams did not add any more pace to the match, which remained slow until the final whistle.
What's next for Cruzeiro and Grêmio?
On Sunday (1), Cruzeiro visits Bragantino, for the 36th round of the Brazilian Championship, at 6:30 pm (Brasília time), seeking to recover in the classification and dreaming of a place in the Libertadores.
On the same day, Grêmio will host São Paulo at 4pm (Brasília time), in a clash between clubs that are fighting in opposite parts of the table. The Immortal is fighting for a spot in the South American, while the Sovereign is chasing the G-4.
