Mané seals Senegal win over Cameroon for Africa Cup progress; Cape Verde also in
Sadio Mané netted a goal late into the injury time, enabling Senegal, the defending champions, to cinch a 3-1 win over Cameroon and secure progression to the Africa Cup of Nations knockout stage on Friday. The victory was marked by an overall impressive performance, with the Lions of Teranga making their mark as Ismaila Sarr scored one goal and assisted another. The win catapulted Senegal to the top of Group C with two successive victories, securing a position among the top two.

Senegal's coach, Aliou Cissé, stressed the importance of staying focused, citing, "We've played two games. We have seven. It's important to stay focused." Meanwhile, Cameroon's hopes of moving forward rest on defeating Gambia, currently at the bottom of the table and hoping for a helping hand from Senegal in their encounter with second-placed Guinea in their final group games on Tuesday.
Additionally, Guinea has almost assured its progression after a 1-0 victory over Gambia on Friday, courtesy of Aguibou Camara's goal.
In another significant development, Cape Verde secured its spot in the knockout stage after a robust 3-0 win over Mozambique. This victory, marked by goals from Bebé, Ryan Mendes, and Kevin Pina, ensured that the Blue Sharks gained their second win from two games, leading them to top Group B with a game to spare. Cape Verde now sits comfortably with six points, followed by Egypt on two, with Ghana and Mozambique both on one point before the final group games on Monday.
Appearing in the Africa Cup for only the fourth time, Cape Verde demonstrated their potential on the soccer field, surpassing their personal best when they reached the quarter-finals in 2013. Defender Roberto "Pico" Lopes expressed his team's tenacity, stating, "What we can deliver together is up there with the best of them."
